Guidelines for Political Campaign Signs

Sep 29, 2020

Since campaign season is in full swing, the City would like to send a few friendly reminders regarding temporary election signage. Please be mindful of the following:

  • Signs may only be placed on private property and only with the owner’s consent.
  • Election signs must be at least 10 feet from the edge of the pavement of a roadway and may not be located within a public right-of-way.

Note:  In most cases, a sign at least 10 feet off the pavement will also be out of the public right-of-way. There are some exceptions, such as Ladue Road.  In some cases on Ladue Road, the sign would need to be as much as 20 feet from the pavement to be out of the right-of-way. If you wish to find out the width of the right-of-way of a public street, please contact the City of Ladue.

  • You are not allowed to call attention to your sign by shining a light on it, attaching balloons to it, putting it on your roof, etc.
  • Signs may not be attached to trees, utility poles or fences.
  • The standard 4 square-foot yard signs are allowed.
  • Election signs must be removed within 10 days following the election.

We understand the importance of being able to express yourself through yard signs during the election season, but we ask that you follow the above parameters. The rules regarding political and other temporary signs can be found in the Ladue Code of Ordinances, Chapter 130, which can be found on Ladue’s website under the Ordinances link: https://www.cityofladue-mo.gov/government/ordinances-113  You may call the City of Ladue at 314-997-6308 if you have any questions.
