Administration
The administration of the Ladue Police Department shall be the sole responsibility of the Chief of Police, who will hold the rank of Colonel and shall have authority over all the divisions of the Police Department. The Chief will serve as the executive officer of the Department and shall be responsible for the execution of the established policies.
Patrol
The Patrol Division is the largest division within the Department and is staffed by sixteen uniformed Officers supervised by four sergeants and commanded by two lieutenants. Their duties include the systematic patrol of the City specifically focused on the prevention and suppression of crime, the arrest of law violators, the protection of life and property, the preservation of peace, and the enforcement of traffic laws and ordinances.
The Patrol division also staffs the Department bicycle patrol unit, which was formed to provide a unique patrol feature in the business districts and neighborhoods.
Investigations
The Investigative Division is staffed by two Investigators and one Juvenile Officer. The Detective Bureau is commanded by a Detective Lieutenant and is the only non-uniformed division in the Department.
The Investigative Division was established to provide assistance to the Uniform Patrol Division in the investigation of criminal activities. Detectives also conduct follow-up investigations concerning both adult and juvenile offenders. Detectives are also responsible for crime prevention programs, photographic services, and for the maintenance of all the property and evidence collected by the Ladue Police Department.
Ladue Detectives are also members of the Greater St. Louis area Major Case Squad and actively participate in homicide investigations that occur in the St. Louis Metropolitan area.
The Juvenile Officer shall act as the School Resource Officer (SRO) and shall be responsible for the investigation of any crime where the suspect is believed to be a juvenile, or any crime against a juvenile. The Juvenile Officer is also be responsible for the preparation and the presentation of the DARE program at the elementary school level.
Traffic Safety
Two uniformed Traffic Officers staff the Traffic Safety Unit. The Traffic Safety Unit is responsible for the enforcement of all traffic laws and ordinances, accident investigations, and the reconstruction of serious automobile accidents. Traffic Safety Officers are responsible for the implementation of all vehicular and pedestrian programs.
Communications/Records
The Communications Division is made up of six civilian employees under the direct supervision of a civilian Communications Supervisor. Communications Officers are responsible for the performance of all communications tasks such as the immediate dispatch of Police Officers, ambulances, fire apparatus, or other personnel and equipment as may be needed to handle all emergencies, complaints and requests from citizens.
The Communications Division is also responsible for the processing of all reports generated by Officers of the Department, as well as the arrest entries of all offenders taken in custody by members of the Department. They also perform various clerical duties that are critical to the effective operation of the Ladue Police Department.
The records division is supervised by the Communications Supervisor and is responsible for the preservation of all offense reports, arrest records, juvenile records, and all other related records.
